Dr. Seuss is the pen name of Theodor Seuss Geisel, one of the most beloved and influential children’s authors of the 20th century. Born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Geisel transformed children’s literature with his imaginative characters, whimsical rhymes, and unique illustrations.

Before becoming a household name, Geisel studied at Dartmouth College and later at Oxford University, where he initially planned to become a professor. However, his passion for cartooning and storytelling led him to a career in advertising and eventually to writing children’s books.

Dr. Seuss published his first children’s book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, in 1937 after years of rejections. This marked the beginning of a prolific career that would include over 60 books, many of which remain timeless classics. His most famous works include The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Horton Hears a Who!, and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Dr. Seuss’s books are known for their rhythmic, playful language and imaginative storytelling that captivate children’s imaginations while often teaching valuable lessons about kindness, perseverance, and environmental stewardship. His creative use of made-up words and playful illustrations have inspired generations of readers and educators alike.

Beyond books, Dr. Seuss’s work has been adapted into numerous films, television specials, and stage productions, cementing his legacy in popular culture.

Theodor Seuss Geisel passed away in 1991, but his stories continue to enchant readers worldwide, making him a timeless figure in children’s literature.
