Lisa Davis is a highly experienced children’s book editor and publishing consultant known for her commitment to creating inclusive, authentic, and engaging books for young readers. Originally from Ohio, she studied English Literature and Creative Writing before pursuing a Master’s degree in Publishing in London. This educational background laid the foundation for her diverse career in children’s publishing, where she has worked with major publishers such as DK, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette.

Lisa’s professional journey includes serving as a book buyer at BookTrust, a UK organization dedicated to promoting children’s literacy. In this role, she selected books for a wide range of children, including those with additional needs and those in foster care. This experience deepened her passion for ensuring all children can see themselves represented in the books they read.

Since 2018, Lisa has been working as a freelance editor and consultant, based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She collaborates with authors, publishers, translators, and charities worldwide, offering a range of services primarily focused on the early-years market, covering ages 0–12. Her expertise includes developmental editing, proofreading, and specialized inclusivity reads, which evaluate how well books represent marginalized identities with sensitivity and authenticity.

Lisa’s approach to editing goes beyond technical correctness to champion diverse voices and stories as essential to great children’s literature. She believes that inclusion should be integral to storytelling, helping books connect meaningfully with readers and succeed commercially. By combining her editorial skills with a deep understanding of the market and social impact, Lisa supports the creation of children’s books that are not only entertaining but also broaden perspectives and foster empathy.

Her dedication and expertise make Lisa Davis a key figure in advancing inclusive children’s literature, ensuring stories reflect the diverse world children live in today.
