Salina Yoon

Salina Yoon is an American author and illustrator renowned for creating over 160 children's books, including the acclaimed Penguin and Pinecone series. Born in Busan, South Korea, in 1972, she immigrated to the United States at age four. Yoon pursued her passion for art and design, studying graphic design at California State University, Northridge, and earning a degree in illustration from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.

Yoon began her publishing career with novelty and board books, integrating her design background with early childhood literacy principles. Her works often feature tactile or interactive elements, such as flaps, tabs, die-cuts, and wheels, aiming to engage young readers in a multisensory experience.

Among her notable works is the Penguin and Pinecone series, which includes titles like Penguin on Vacation and Penguin and Penelope. These stories explore themes of friendship and kindness, resonating with both children and adults.

In 2019, Yoon collaborated with tidying expert Marie Kondo on Kiki & Jax: The Life-Changing Magic of Friendship, a picture book that blends themes of organization with friendship.

Yoon's books have sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide and have been translated into multiple languages, reflecting her global appeal.

She resides in San Diego, California, with her husband, artist Chris Polentz, and their two sons.
