G Hughes (Ira “Guy” Hughes) began his life in the small Ohio town of Braceville, where he grew up with his mother and father and three siblings in a close-knit community. Guy has fond childhood memories of his mother standing over a smoky BBQ pit, slathering finger-licking sauce on chicken and ribs. Apart from Christmas, Guy's favorite season was summer, which was jam-packed with outdoor activities and meaningful family time centered around cookouts.
Guy was adamant about carrying on his family's long-standing custom of barbecuing. G Hughes created his unique product by combining his family's secret BBQ sauce recipe with his own "special" additives. G Hughes then perfected his BBQ method, temperature, and, of course, his trademark sauce. Guy began competing and swiftly rose to the position of award-winning Pit Master. Guy's fame increased as he won more and more rib cook-offs. G Hughes has served thousands of BBQ fans throughout the years, from celebrities to regular people like you and me.
G Hughes began bottling his proprietary sauce formula after receiving numerous requests over the years. Guy saw as he grew older that there was a need to develop goods for folks who wanted to enjoy the sweet and savoury flavours of BBQ but didn't want to consume sugar. G Hughes collaborated with Gia Brands Inc., a local Northeast Ohio company, and Summer Garden Food to develop a range of sugar-free goods with all the taste but none of the guilt.
