Not replacing a toothbrush when it is due can not only impact the quality of regular brushing efficiency, but also put you at risk of infection and disease. There are three instances when you should think about changing your toothbrush.

  1. Every three months. Even with proper rinsing, bacteria can accumulate in the brush and due to mechanical wear, an overused toothbrush no longer properly removes plaque.
  2. After every illness. Germs can survive and replicate on the toothbrush even after you recover from an illness, hence you should always replace it afterwards even if the brush hasn’t been used for a long time.
  3. If the toothbrush wears too quickly. Some people will wear their brushes sooner than 3 months, which is often a sign of using a hard brushing technique.
