ALL of our goods are proudly formulated and manufactured in our own facilities in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
Suncoat originally joined the beauty business in 2002, when our founder and chemist Yingchun Liu, Ying for short, who has a background in both polymer and organic chemistry, was faced with a dilemma: her seven-year-old daughter wanted to test out nail paint. Ying, on the other hand, believed that the variety of harmful compounds found in nail polish, such as formaldehyde, toluene, and acetates, constituted too much of a risk to her health. So she used her scientific expertise as well as her creative sense for innovation. Ying invented a groundbreaking new water-based, non-toxic nail polish recipe that has the same quality and finish as traditional nail lacquer but without the harmful ingredients.
On a roll, Ying didn't stop with nail polishes, expanding Suncoat to include a line of award-winning formulations for the face, eyes, lips, and even hair, all of which were created using the perfect blend of technology and effective natural ingredients. The model is at the heart of the Suncoat brand's mission to create innovative, high-quality products using the best components nature has to offer while maintaining the highest level of environmental stewardship.
Ying graduated from Nanjing University in Nanjing, China, with a BSc in polymer chemistry and The University of Calgary in Calgary, Canada, with an MSc in organic chemistry. Between 1993 to 1995, Ying was a Ph.D. candidate in organic/biopolymer chemistry at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Canada. Ying worked as a Formulation Chemist, Senior Coatings Chemist, and Technical Director for industrial coatings and polymer resins producers in Canada for many years before founding Suncoat in 2002.
Our Mission
Suncoat is a non-toxic nail polish pioneer, forging the path of natural beauty by integrating nature with technology to produce revolutionary products based on a mix of vegan, mineral-based materials and water, one of our bodies' most important components. By reintroducing nature to nail polish, we hope to inspire individuals to do the same in other areas of their lives, restoring a sense of balance to the planet.
