Nix Works Thanks to Permethrin

The active ingredient in Nix Crème Rinse is permethrin 1%, an insecticide that belongs to the medicinal family known as synthetic pyrethroids. Permethrin is highly toxic for insects yet has shown to be a low-risk toxin for humans, with adverse side effects being extremely rare in clinical trials, making permethrin an ideal treatment for lice.

Upon contact with permethrin, lice are rendered paralyzed, and begin going into muscle spasms, before they die. Permethrin kills adult lice, immature nymphs, and unhatched eggs. The nit comb then removes dead lice and their eggs from the scalp.

For proper use of Permethrin Cream for Lice:

Inspect

  • Closely inspect anyone who is suspected to be infected or came in close physical contact with someone who is suspected to have had an infection.
  • Use a magnifying glass in a well-light setting to ensure you can see lice and nits (eggs).
  • Methodically look through small sections of hair starting from one point and make sure to cover the whole scalp – just because lice are not present in one section of hair, doesn’t mean they aren’t elsewhere.
  • Distinguish between dandruff and nits by gently moving surrounding areas to see if they stick to hair – dandruff will shake loose with ease while nits cling to the hair.
  • If you should find any nits or lice, immediately treat using Nix Crème rinse.

Treat

  • Wash hair using shampoo. Use of a 2 in 1 shampoo that incorporates a conditioner or a conditioner alone may reduce the efficacy of Nix. Rinse with water.
  • Towel dry hair so it’s slightly damp.
  • Shake the bottle well before applying.
  • Saturate the hair and scalp completely with Nix Lice Treatment. Nix should be applied behind the ears and towards the back of the neck.
  • Keep Nix Creme Rinse out of the eyes. Use a washcloth or towel to cover your eyes.
  • Leave in hair for exactly 10 minutes (no longer).
  • Rinse with warm water.
  • Towel dry hair and comb out tangles.
  • If live lice are seen seven days or more after the treatment, a second treatment should be given.

Remove

  • Nits can be removed from the hair by combing them with the given special small tooth comb. The remaining nits can be removed by hand (with a disposable glove) or by cutting nits out.
  • While removing nits, use the supplied nit comb and keep the hair somewhat wet.
  • If your hair dries out while you're combing it, softly dampen it with water.
  • Part the hair into 4 sections. Work on one section at a time. Longer hair may need more time (1-2 hours).
  • Begin from the top of the head on the part you've chosen.
  • Lift a 1–2-inch broad strand of hair with one hand. Bring the comb's teeth as close to the scalp as possible and comb away from the scalp to the end of the hair in a strong, even motion.
  • After you've combed out the nits, pin back each strand of hair using clips.
  • Clean the comb completely as you go. Wipe the nits off the comb with a tissue and place the tissue in a tight plastic bag to keep the lice at bay.
  • Recheck the entire head for nits after combing, and repeat if required.
  • Check the afflicted head on a regular basis to eliminate any nits you may have missed.

Warning: Do Not Use The Best Nit Cream...

On mucous membranes (inside of nose, mouth, eyes).

Nix Crème Rinse is exclusively for exterior usage. If crème gets in eyes rinse thoroughly with water to minimize irritation. If you eat it, call your doctor or a poison control center right once.

If pregnant or if breastfeeding.

It’s not known if permethrin has adverse side effects during or soon after pregnancy. Since the benefits of permethrin may be necessary in some cases, please consult your doctor before use to ensure that there are minimal risks for you and your child.

For children under the age of 2 years and for seniors over the age of 65.

It’s not fully understood whether permethrin carries increased risks for more vulnerable age groups. Consult your doctor or pharmacist to ensure it is safe for you to use or to look for alternative methods of treatment.
