Kurundu Ceylon Cinnamon Sticks

Cinnamon is a spice extracted from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum.* There are two main types of cinnamon: Ceylon cinnamon (also called true cinnamon, Cinnamomum verum, Cinnamomum zeylanicum) and cassia (Cinnamomum burmannii). In North America there is often confusion between the two varieties, referring to the bark of both as simply cinnamon without a clear distinction being made. However, when the term cinnamon is used anywhere else in the world people are referring to Ceylon cinnamon and not to cassia and all its varieties.*

The Canadian and American governments permit the use of the term cinnamon to be used for all types of commercial Ceylon cinnamon and cassia cinnamon.* However, use of the term Ceylon cinnamon is restricted to Ceylon cinnamon only, so you can be sure that you are purchasing this specific and excellent variety.*

Native to Sri Lanka (previously Ceylon) the tree can also be found in Seychelles, Madagascar and southern India in small quantities.* Sri Lanka produces the most Ceylon cinnamon and is truly superior in quality. We have Fair-Trade and Certified organic Ceylon cinnamon and conventionally grown Ceylon cinnamon. Our Ceylon cinnamon is always from Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon).*
