Fascinating DHA and Omega supplements, like NutraSea DHA 2x Concentrated High DHA Omega-3 Softgels have some outstanding benefits to your health. This article aims at revealing what happens when you take DHA supplements and answers your most common questions about Omega fatty acids.
What is a DHA supplement?
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid found in cold-water oily fish like salmon and is also found in seaweed. The body naturally produces small amounts of DHA and it is also widely available in supplement form. DHA is a critical structural component of the cerebral cortex, which is the area of the brain that is responsible for memory, language, creativity, judgment, emotion, and attention.
In traditional medicine, DHA is known as a natural remedy for a wide range of health issues and diseases, these include:
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Raynaud’s syndrome
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Type 2 diabetes
In addition, DHA is said to aid in the prevention of cancer, age-related macular degeneration, and Alzheimer’s disease.
DHA is required in all stages of life, for healthy brain functioning. Studies show that DHA may produce a number of other health benefits, such as enhanced cardiovascular health. Since DHA possesses anti-inflammatory properties, it’s also thought to protect against inflammation-related health conditions.
Research suggests that DHA supplements may offer the following health benefits:
1) Heart Disease
Taking a DHA supplement in combination with EPA may reduce several risk factors for cardiovascular disease (including that of high cholesterol), according to a 2009 report published in Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes, and Essential Fatty Acids.
In addition, the report’s authors note that taking DHA supplements may moderately improve blood pressure. The report also indicated that people with higher levels of DHA may have a lower risk of atherosclerosis.
2) Brain Health
DHA may help protect against age-related cognitive decline, studies have found that taking supplements containing both DHA and EPA may help treat mild cognitive impairment (but not Alzheimer’s disease).
DHA may help people who suffer from depression, according to a 2010 research review from Biological Psychiatry. Looking at 14 studies on polyunsaturated fatty acid levels in depressive patients, found people with depression may be more likely to have low levels of DHA and EPA. The studies suggest that DHA and EPA may help reduce depressive symptoms and, in doing so, show promise as an alternative treatment for depression.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), fish oil is possibly effective in the treatment of several other conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, menstrual pain, psoriasis, and asthma. The NIH also states that fish oil may help reduce the risk of stroke and certain forms of cancer (including endometrial cancer).
What are Omega 3 6 9 good for?
What is Omega-3 Fatty Acid?
Omega-3 fatty acid (Alpha-linolenic acid) is an essential fatty acid that plays an important role in brain function and may help you fight against cardiovascular disease. The American Heart Association recommends a diet in which fatty fish, like salmon, herring, sardines, and tuna are consumed at least twice a week.
What is Omega-6 Fatty Acid?
Omega-6 fatty acid (Linoleic Acid) combined with omega-3 fatty acid produces many of the health benefits described above, but the trickiest part is that it is best to eat them in the right amounts.
What is Omega-9 Fatty Acid?
Omega-9, or monounsaturated oleic and stearic acid, is a non-essential fatty acid produced naturally by the body whenever there is enough of either Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids.
Does omega 3 help acne?
In a nutshell, fish oil – or rather, omega-3 fatty acids – do appear to help some people clear up their skin faster. This is because omega-3s reduce inflammation in a few different ways. Studies have shown taking fish oil can reduce acne by 42%.
2 studies have looked at the effect of fish oil on acne. One study showed 42% reduction in inflammatory acne and 20% reduction in non-inflammatory acne. The other study showed that it can help people with moderate/severe acne, but has no effect on people with mild acne.
Additional studies show that fish oil can improve the cause of acne. It can help women struggling with hormonal issues, such as premenstrual breakouts or PCOS-related acne.
Is Omega 3 good for memory?
Omega 3 fatty acids also include DHA. As mentioned previously, DHA is known for its powerful brain-building abilities. DHA is often referred to when it comes to babies and toddlers, since most milk formulas are starting to include added DHA for brain health. It is shown that DHA improves memory loss in older adults and improves brain functions in the earlier stages of life.
Does fish oil expire?
Fish oil supplements can expire and must be stored properly. The expiration date listed on the package refers to the unopened product. Once you open fish oil supplements and expose them to air, they gradually become rancid. Omega-3 fatty acids are chemically unstable and highly prone to oxidation and degradation over time during storage. In general, it is estimated that fish oil supplements expire roughly 90 days after you open them. Storing fish oil supplements improperly accelerates the expiration. Always follow the manufacturer’s storing instructions. Some fish oil supplements must be refrigerated, while you must store others at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
It can be difficult to find a great tasting DHA or Omega supplement, they usually leave a fishy aftertaste. NutraSea has pioneered great tasting Omega’s that leaves no aftertaste, here are a few examples taken from our current NutraSea promotion, which can be located here.

Both of my dogs love this fish oil! I give it to them on their breakfast -if I am in a rush and do not put it on the food they look at me like “hello, are you forgetting something!?” Their skin and coat look amazing! There is NO nasty smell at all, I was very surprised! A must have for doggie owners!

My dogs love omega 3 capsules and this makes their dinner time so much easier. No messy capsules to cut up, and they love the flavour. Their coats are softer now. I have one dog with sensitive skin and it is looking soft, pink and perfect.
