Advanced Orthomolecular Research (AOR) Chanca Piedra
Chanca Piedra is a Spanish name for the plant Phyllanthus niruri, and means “to break stone”. This reflects its long use as a potential treatment for dealing with gall bladder and kidney stones.*
Phyllanthus niruri extracts have powerful muscle relaxant activities, which help to expel stones. They may also inhibit the internalization of calcium oxalate crystals, which are the building blocks of kidney stones. Besides its effects on the kidney and gall bladder, it also promotes beneficial effects on the liver, and appears to protect this hardworking organ from various toxins and oxidative damage, as well as helping to stimulate repair mechanisms.*
